spiced Apple Chutney recipe in Pot

Looks Can Be Deceiving

Okay, I know this may not look like the most aesthetically pleasing food, but we really cannot judge a book by its cover. Especially with this Spiced Apple Chutney Recipe. Trust me, I know it just looks like a mound of brownness, but it is one of the most flavorful foods I have ever tasted. This is also coming from someone who isn’t exactly a fan of cooked apples.

I love apples, but for most of my life, I never liked the texture of cooked apples. And yes, that means that I do not like apple pie. I enjoy the flavor of apple pie, but it’s the texture of the cooked apples that weirds me out. Don’t get me wrong, I want to like apple pie. It sounds so good and over the years, I would make myself eat it just so I could finally get myself to like it. I’m still not the biggest fan of it, but I can eat it without feeling squeamish, so that’s something.

Apple Chutney recipe Close Up

A Revolutionary Moment

My relationship with apples reached its turning point in one of my classes at school. My group was in charge of making various recipes and one of them was the apple chutney. I took the lead with the apple chutney recipe, and as one does when he or she finishes making a recipe, I tasted it. MY. MIND. WAS. BLOWN. I’d gone my entire life disliking cooked apples and suddenly I was in love with this apple chutney. For some reason, the texture of the apples didn’t bother me, and it was so freaking flavorful. This Spiced Apple Chutney Recipe is the one exception I have when it comes to disliking cooked apples.

Apple Chutney recipe Before Cooking

So, a chutney is a mixture or fruit, spices, sugar, and vinegar, that’s cooked down to a jam-like consistency. All of the flavors are concentrated as the chutney reduces, leaving you with a flavor bomb! The apples in this recipe caramelize with all of the spices, giving you sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. It’s the best of all the worlds.

Try This Chutney!

I have made this recipe time and time again and it never fails or gets olds. It’s a great component to have if you’re setting up a charcuterie board or need a topping for a meat. Last Christmas, I made latkes, and instead of serving them with applesauce (yuck), I topped them with a dollop of this apple chutney and a drizzle of sour cream. It was perfection. I think cooks are similar to artists. You never really think a dish you make is perfect, so it’s not very often that you impress yourself. However, these latkes with the apple chutney blew my mind. I most definitely impressed myself.

So, give this Spiced Apple Chutney Recipe a try! And if you stick with me until next week, I’ll have the perfect recipe to pair with this apple chutney! With that said, have a great day and I’ll talk to you in my next post!
