Snacks from the Past
If you’re looking for your next go-to snack, you’ve come to the right place! This Miso Furikake Snack Mix is scarily addictive, but don’t let that stop you from making this recipe.
The first time I ever had a furikake snack mix was from my aunt. I have memories of her making it in her house and I was immediately hooked. She discovered it from a friend who baked it at home, so my aunt followed her recipe and made it for her kids. This furikake snack mix was perfectly sweet and salty, and the pieces were coated in a caramelized glaze. It was always a treat whenever my Aunt had it in her house.
This became a distant memory and I hadn’t had the furikake snack mix until a few years ago in Hawaii. My dad, sister, and I went on vacation to Kauai and randomly ended up at a Costco. Lo and behold, I stumbled across this package of Furikake Party Mix! My sister and I immediately demolished the bag and you can bet I bought another package to take home to share with my friends. Everyone was hooked to it and it’s a snack that lives rent free in our heads.
You’re Gonna Get Hooked!
This furikake party mix was so incredible that I had to make my own version at home. The original version was delicious, but I wanted to add a bit more umami and Japanese flavor to the mix. I added in white miso paste and dark soy sauce to the glaze then incorporated nori arare into the mix.
Pretzels, Bugles, Rice and Corn Chex, Honeycomb, and nori arare are tossed together then coated in a sweet, salty, and umami glaze. As the mixture slowly bakes, the glaze adheres to all the snacks, creating delicious caramelized pieces. This Miso Furikake Snack Mix recipe makes quite a large batch, but let me tell you, I ended up making 2 batches within a week because it was gone so fast! So if that’s any hint to how tasty this recipe is, you should definitely go home and make a batch. You might hate me for how addicted you get to it, but I’ll gladly accept it! Let me know what you think about this Miso Furikake Snack Mix and I’ll catch you in my next post!
