A Fall Carnival at Home
I’m gonna be honest, I probably have only eaten a fried Oreo once in my life. I remember enjoying it, but also saw it as one of those overly indulgent foods that you would find at a carnival — I’d never make it at home. Oh how times have changed, because today I’m bringing you Pumpkin Spice Fried Oreos and they are one of the most delicious Fall treats I’ve made this year.
Whenever Fall rolls around, recipes for pumpkin bread, cinnamon rolls, and apple pie infiltrate my social feeds. And I love it. I’m here for all of those delicious recipes. However, I’m also always looking for something new and different. As I passed by the shelf of pumpkin spice Oreos, I immediately thought “pumpkin spice fried Oreos” despite only having a fried Oreo once in my life. I knew it was a recipe that had potential, I just didn’t realize how delicious they would actually be.
Gourmet Oreos
Our base ingredients are the Oreos and pancake mix. So not only are we using pumpkin spice Oreos, but we’re also making a pumpkin spice batter. The pancake mix is combined with water, pumpkin puree, and pumpkin pie spice for that extra oomph of Fall. Then we dip the pumpkin spice Oreos into the pancake batter and fry them to golden brown perfection!
Of course, you can’t have fried Oreos without a healthy dusting of powdered sugar. Because it is pumpkin spice season, I dusted a little more pumpkin pie spice on top as well. If you want to take it up a notch, serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and salted caramel sauce! I know it’s optional, but the ice cream really is a game changer! The Oreos are perfectly crispy on the outside and warm and melty on the inside. Then when you pair it with the cold creamy vanilla ice cream, it takes it to a whole other level.
This recipe for Pumpkin Spice Fried Oreos is so easy yet astonishingly gourmet! When you eat them, it’s hard to believe that it’s n Oreo fried with pancake mix because the flavors taste so much more complex. But that’s the beauty of cooking, you can transform the simplest ingredient into something extravagant. I hope you get to try this recipe out before the Oreos are out of stores, and let me know what you think in the comments below!
Pumpkin Spice Fried Oreos
Ingredients
- 1 cup Pancake Mix (I used Krustaez)
- 1 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
- 1 tbsp Pumpkin Puree
- 2/3 cup water
- As Needed Vegetable Oil (for frying)
- 16 Pumpkin Spice Oreos
- As Needed Powdered Sugar (for topping)
- As Needed Pumpkin Pie Spice (for topping)
- Optional Vanilla Ice Cream (for serving)
- Optional Salted Caramel Sauce (for serving)
Instructions
- Add the pancake mix, pumpkin pie spice, pumpkin puree, and water to a bowl. Mix with a whisk until combined. Let the batter sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
- Heat a small-medium sized pot 1/3 of the way up with vegetable oil. Heat it to 375°F. Use a fork to dip the pumpkin spice Oreos into the pancake batter, making sure all sides are coated. Lift the Oreo out of the batter, allowing the excess to drip off. Working in batches, add the battered Oreos to the hot oil and fry for 45 seconds on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove the Oreos from the oil and place them onto a cooling rack lined with paper towels to drain.
- Dust powdered sugar and a bit of pumpkin pie spice on top of the Oreos. Serve with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of salted caramel sauce if desired. Enjoy!
