A Simple Upgrade
As much as I love cooking, I’m also very susceptible to falling into a rut with deciding on what to make for dinner during the week. It’s so easy to fall into routine with the meals you make and the items you buy at the grocery store. One thing I’ve learned though is that you can buy the same ingredients, but it’s just a matter of how and what you prepare them with that can change everything. This Miso Garlic Butter Rice is the perfect example of that. I know a lot of us probably make rice multiple times for dinner throughout the week because it’s easy. And let’s be honest, plain white rice can get boring. So this Miso Garlic Butter Rice is the perfect upgrade that introduces the same ease and simplicity but with a lot more flavor to keep the palate excited. If this sounds like something you experience, stick around and let me show you how to make it!

Simple Seasonings
Soak the rice in cold water for 15 minutes. Drain the water then set the rice aside. Heat a medium sized pot over medium heat. Add in butter and allow it to melt. Mix in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant. Add in the miso paste. Stir and cook for about 1 minute then add in the rice. Cook the rice for 2 minutes to toast then mix in the dashi stock, soy sauce, and sesame oil
Increase the heat to medium high and bring the mixture to a boil. Decrease the heat to low so that it is simmering. Cover the pot with a lid and cook for 20 minutes until the rice is cooked through and all the liquid has been absorbed.Remove the pot from the heat and fluff the rice with a rice paddle or fork. Top with toasted white sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Enjoy!

Savory Sensations
From the moment you lift the lid off the pot, you’ll be able to smell the buttery, nutty, and garlicky flavor of the rice. At first glance, I will admit that it doesn’t look like anything special. However, once that spoonful of rice hits your mouth, you’ll understand how magical it tastes. The miso, sesame oil, and dashi stock add a savory umami flavor with a hint of nuttiness. Then the butter coats each granule of rice that gives it the perfect mouthfeel with every bite. This Miso Garlic Butter Rice is the perfect side dish to amp up those boring weeknight meals while still getting it on the table without using a million ingredients and pots. Let me know if you try this recipe out and if you’ll ever go back to plain rice!
